FIFA WORLCUP 2006 IN GERMANY
My man Holger and I were really excited about the World Cup coming to Germany. We had the feeling this could be something great … and our high expectations were exceeded by far!
Yes, we had some tickets. How? Well, a Friday night in the internet, together with some coke, some whisky and the will to go through hundreds of “No ticket available”- messages paired with a buck load of luck, got us in the stadium.
We took our cameras along, so now I can share some of the images with you.
Personally, I think the best thing about the World Cup was meeting
the fans from around the globe. To meet and talk to them, to hear them sing,
to party with them! Here are some that impressed me the most:
MEXICO
I think the Mexican fans are the best of the whole lot! Loads of them came all the way to Germany without tickets just to travel with their team. Wherever they went, they were dancing, singing, laughing and drinking like there was no tomorrow. They took over Nürnberg for a day and a half and we all hoped they would come back in the final round. MEXICO, MEXICO, RA, RA, RA!
HOLLAND
Yes, our beloved neighbours surely don’t deserve the “Ohne Holland fahren wir…”-crap that we throw at them all the time. The dutch fans are incredible: They wear fancy costumes, they carry their good mood around, they sing and dance and turned Nürnberg into an orange festival for a day. Sadly their team didn’t make it too far, so they couldn’t bring their happiness to more places. HUP, HOLLAND, HUP!
KOREA
We didn’t see much of the Korean fans in downtown Frankfurt.
They seem to go straight to the stadium. In the stadium however, they were
probably the most energetic fans that we met. Non-stop singing and jumping
up and down helped their team beat Togo and drew France. I was very impressed
with their costumes, their happy smiles and their cute female fans ;)
DAE HAN MIN GUK!

GERMANY
Well, German fans surly rolled on a wave of enthusiasm, as this great event took place in our country and our team played a lot better than anybody would have predicted. I have never seen so many of my folks as happy, crazy and joyful as in those four weeks of soccer-madness. Half a million people gathered in Berlin just to thank the team for the 3rd place, need I say more? 54, 74, 90, 2010…!
And that is what this world cup was all about to me: To meet and greet the
people from around the world and make them feel welcome here. I think Germany
did a great job and I hope our guests will keep us in good memory. Sadly a
couple of German bald headed nerds will always make it into the world news
with some idiotic actions. But I think the World Cup easily showed that Germany
is full of friendly people, which enjoy the company of friends from around
the world.
That being said, I do hope that we (the Germans) keep some of that enthusiasm and happiness, which the World Cup provided, in our minds. In the matter of “not taking life too serious”, "friendliness towards strangers" and “not moaning about everything”, some of us still have stuff to learn. Especially now, that the World Cup is gone and every day life is back!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy my selection of pictures.
See you all in 2010!
