REMEMBERINGMICHAEL TURNER
I started reading comics rather late, about ten years ago, when I picked up a copy of WITCHBLADE and was quite amazed of the quality of the presented artwork. The comic turned out to be penciled by an artist named Michael Turner. I really enjoyed his artwork, so I started collecting his comics. In 2002 I actually met Michael Turner at a comic signing event at a store in Las Vegas. He seem to be a very pleasant guy, even asking me about Germany and photography and so forth. He signed a lot of my comic books and even made a sketch of my ex-girlfriend into a book I was bringing her as a present. Michaels work has always brought joy into my life. I really enjoy following his beautiful characters into their fantastic worlds and I was always eager to get the newest comic books of this Master of his artform. On June 27th 2008 Michael Turner died - at the young age of 37 - of complications from bone cancer. His fans new about his illness and we admired the way he seem to get over it so easily. He always seem to have been a lighthearted man, always looking for the good in life and constantly bringing joy to other people - his friends, his colleagues, his fans. He was diagnosed with a form of bone cancer in 2000 but he wouldn't let that illness stop him or bring down his good spirit. I believe he was too strong for that. So the news of his death sadden me in such a way, that I felt I have to do something, give something back. So I decided to create a Tribute Page for Michael Turner, to showcase some of his incredible work and to make sure that he will be remembered. On the other hand I know there are a lot of people who don't read comics and never really had contact with this artform. So maybe the collections on this page will open their eyes to Mike's world and hopefully they will be a little amazed, like I was ten years ago. I handpicked some of my favourite covers, added some comic scenes and sketches and combined them into four different slide shows: WITCHBLADE, FATHOM, SOULFIFE and OTHER WORK. All that is left for me to say is thank you, Michael Turner, for bringing so much joy into my life and into those of so many other! You will be greatly missed and always remembered! Kolja Lücking
